Plans are underway for the 2023 Quantum and Dark Matter Road Trip!

This year the enthusiastic bunch of scientists from EQUS and Dark Matter will be astounding students and communities throughout
New South Wales and Queensland with their quantum-loads of knowledge and all matters dark and mysterious.

The road trip team are a diverse and friendly group of scientists and science communicators with a range of experiences and knowledge. We are enthusiastic about sharing the latest discoveries in quantum technology and dark matter physics through outreach programs such as this road trip.  By doing so, we hope to engage and inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers, especially those in under-served areas of the country.

In 2022 the Quantum and Dark Matter Road Trip went across Australia from Queensland to Western Australia with our two ARC Centres of Excellence CDMPP and EQUS bringing in team members from universities in WA, SA, VIC, ACT, NSW and QLD. With a National Science Week grant and substantial funding by the centres, we were able to bring the excitement of quantum science and dark matter discovery to even more students and communities in remote and regional parts of Australia.

Eight members of the QDM Lab embarked on a Quantum and Dark Matter Road Trip during National Science Week (August 16 to 20, 2021) visiting schools and communities in the southwest of Western Australia.

With funding from National Science Week Small Grants, ARC Centre of Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (EQUS) and ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics, high school students and interested members of the public had the opportunity to be informed and entertained in all matters dark and quantum.

The team travelled to country towns in a 12-seater bus from The University of Western Australia and spoke to students ranging from year 7 to year 12 over the five day trip, as well as a Community Fair at Newton Moore Senior High School in Bunbury. The participating schools were:

  • Wagin District High School

  • Denmark Senior High School

  • Mt Barker Community College

  • Albany Senior High School

  • Newton Moore Senior High School

  • Nannup District High School

  • Dalyellup College

Community Road Trip Events

Along the route the Quantum Road Trip Team gave free Quantum and Dark Matter presentations to the wider community.
